| | OK, most of you may have noticed that I went pretty quiet after my son was born and didn't say much about him. Fact is, we have been worried about him and I really didn't want to jinx anything by talking about it.
We were really worried that he may have had a substantial problem.
Some of you probably know that I sold off a crap-ton of my stuff before simply to raise the money to finish paying off the hospital so, not only did I feel terrible about our first ever child having an issue, but I thought I was going to have to try and explain it all and ask for handouts again.
When he was born, we noticed that his left ear was not formed properly. Actually, it looked as if if were folded to the front and fused onto his head. You can see it pretty well in this picture (sorry it's from my phone).
The biggest worry we had was, what if he was deaf in that ear? We honestly couldn't tell if there was an ear canal or not.
The doctors checked him out when he was 2 days old, but couldn't tell us anything. They were not sure when or if they would be able to find out more.
When he was 5 days old though, a specialist was in the hospital and they ran some tests. Luckily, it came back that he can hear!
Everything seems to be working on the left side, it will just take a bit of cosmetic work after they cut it and fold it back properly.
So, I will need a bit of cash, but nothing so horrendous that I have to start selling everything off again. Better yet, I found out my son is healthy and it's a fantastic feeling! |
